it’s off to work i go

I’m taking a long trek to Brooklyn today to shoot the T Mobile commercial. I am so grateful for this gig! Thanks for all the congratulatory messages.

Today is Barbra Streisand’s birthday. She’s 66. It seems like, just yesterday, I was sitting in the mezzanine of Hollywood’s Egyptian Theater as one of the packed house of moviegoers seeing her movie debut in “Funny Girl.” The rest is Rivers Family history. Not only had I integrated that entire audience, I lead the place in wild applause at the end of the “Don’t Rain On My Parade” number. Every time Mom said “I see you getting married and having about three kids,” I wanted to sit in the back of a pick up truck — like Barbra on the “Stoney End” album cover — and head for someplace over the rainbow. Life is funny, girl.

in junior high I used to sit in the closet under the stairway and listen to stoney end on those ginormous headphones over and over.

In the closet listening to Barbara Streisand.
