Go to the website for The Los Angeles Times and read the totally fascinating *Old Mike, New Christine* essay written in the first person by Mike Penner. The reporter, who has covered sports for 20 years and who also coaches a soccer team, is taking some time off. He will leave the newspaper offices as Mike and come back as Christine. As he writes in today’s edition, “I am a transsexual sportswriter.”
By dinnertime today, that article will probably have made national news. Not only that, when “Christine” returns to work, there will probably be an offer to host her own show on MSNBC. Or, in her case, PMS-NBC. The networks definitely will come a-callin’. Bless Mike’s heart on his bravery and may all go well.
