I am well behind thw curve responding to this essay, but HAVE TO comment.

I don't know you, Mr. Rivers, aside from a few tweet exchanges we've shared in the short months I joined the social media world. But oh, do I want to!

I grew up in New York City and fell in love with classic movies from the moment my feet touched American soil at age five. In fact, I credit those movies for teaching me the English language much more than I do all the amazing teachers I had that touched my life through the years. I've forgotten most of what they taught me as I easily forget facts about the films I love. But the love remains constant. I mention this only because we share a love of classic film, but your knowledge is unequalled! IT must be shared! As a classic movie fan, I crave your stories, your knowledge, your recollections. You are, indeed, the one TCM should aspire to bring to their very dedicated audience.

Black or white, IN black and white and sterophonic sound - I am in awe.

Best of luck,

I agree, your short podcasts were illuminating, perhaps youtube video will give you an outlet and a portfolio of new material that TCM can't ignore.

Honestly, Bobby, I think TCM is really missing the boat in not having hired you. You know more about classic film than anyone I know. And I know from your days with VH1 that you are funny, charming, and telegenic. Really, I think you would be much better than most of the guest hosts they have had the past few months!

I'm trying to understand why, when you have such a long history of not only writing about film, but interviewing at length many Hollywood greats, TCM hasn't snapped you up already.

Another solution I can think of is one that's worked for some women also trying to break through barriers - put on your own show, and by that I mean, head to YouTube. I think Feminist Frequency on YouTube is a great example of a film critic who gets attention and gets people talking.

To my favorite host and adored New York neighbor, I miss running into you at Allen's Alley and other pats of Chelsea. I wish you luck out here. I just recently came out to Sacramento for a few months to spend some time with family. Whew! New Yorkers can wear you out. It's nice to be around people who are a bit more grounded. And some fresher air. I am in the same predicament - years of experience, skills and talent but like most unpatriotic corporations, my job is being outsourced. I'm told if I want to work at my craft I need to relocate to China or Singapore. Hmmm. Okay. So we regroup and keep the faith, knowing that because we have a mission to complete, the Supreme source is in control and leave the details to them.
God bless you!

You SHOULD write. Keep submitting. You heard "The Help" was rejected 60 times? And she was a white girl with friends in publishing. Skip agents. Go right to the big six. They say they don't accept unsolicited manuscripts- but they put their address right under it. It means "no unsolicited manuscripts, but.. if you really wanna... send it here." So do it. Send it to the small presses. Send it to as many as possible. Simultaneous is fine. When you get an offer, find an Intellectual Property lawyer to represent you.
Send 3 chapters, start with the strongest stuff.
Best of luck. You have a story to tell and you have a voice. F*$%K the rejections. Everyone gets battle scars.
